Here To Stay is a performative project created through a series of walks in the town of Peekskill in upstate New York. At ten sites in town, I have created ephemeral text works on the ground, using leaves to spell out the phrase HERE TO STAY. During the course of five weeks, I kept returning to Peekskill several times to reset the texts, repairing damage caused by the weather, traffic, or footsteps. Evoking the desire for stability and fixity in and through language, the work created a series of temporary and semi-ironic declarations against the inevitable facts of change, impermanence, and entropy. This site contains the images of the text works built and rebuilt along the route, as well as evidence of their decay and disintegration over time.
