This work uses “ghosts” of images from which I had previously cut out a figure which was used in earlier works. I have overlaid several of these ‘figure ghosts’ to create an invocation of a transformed new figure whose edges are unstable. The new figure(s) indicated by the overlapping lines suggest a body in motion, or a body in the process of morphing and instability, whose contours are impossible to capture. The empty space outlined by these multiple cut lines becomes a space of potential – a space of imagining the missing figure. The work is part of an ongoing preoccupation of mine dealing with the tension between presence and absence.
